Challenge: An Post and Poetry Ireland are releasing a new collection of stamps as part of the Irish Poetry Symposium 2022 to celebrate Irish Poets — past & present. Our challenge was to choose three poets and create a stamp for each.
Strategy: I choose three poems by Seamus Heaney, Patrick Kavanagh and Evan Boland, that dealt with the visuals and ideas surrounding Irish landscapes. After doing research into modern stamp design, I decided I wanted to take a fresh and contemporary take on the stamps. For each stamp I took 3 visuals from each poem, to give an example, for Cityscape by Evan Boland I took the moon, a cityscape and clouds and composed them in a way I thought would give a little insight into the poem. For my colour scheme I took typical Irish landscapes and created colour schemes for each. Through my design I wanted to show the idea that poetry is timeless and its concepts and themes can still be appreciated in a modern day world
